The AfriCHI 2027 Full Papers track invites original research that advances Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) in and through African contexts and perspectives. Under the theme People, Places and Possibilities, we welcome contributions that examine how HCI research, design, methods and practice can respond to the needs of diverse communities and shape more inclusive, equitable futures.
We encourage submissions that engage with the diversity of African communities, cultures, languages, environments and knowledge systems while contributing to HCI scholarship that is inclusive, contextually grounded and globally relevant. The 2027 edition of AfriCHI will be hosted by the Department of Computer Science, University of Lagos, Nigeria. The full research track seeks to showcase studies that critically engage with emerging technologies rooted in Africans’ lived realities, ethically, for inclusive futures.
AfriCHI 2027 welcomes a broad range of topics, including but not limited to the following:
Submission
Submitted papers should be between 8,000 and 12,000 words, including the paper title and a 250-word abstract, but excluding references. All submissions must be formatted using the ACM template. All submissions must be anonymised with no reference to the authors’ names or institutions in the manuscript or document properties. Authors are advised to use the ACM Reference format provided in the ACM template. Although we value the diversity and richness of African languages, all submissions must be in English, the ACM publication language.
Papers must be submitted through the conference submission system
Review process
All research papers will undergo a double-blind review by an international panel of experts. The track chairs may also run submitted papers through a plagiarism-checking tool. All authors must be included during the first submission. The addition of new authors will not be permitted after the first submission.
Papers will be reviewed for their value and relevance to the AfriCHI 2027 theme, the quality of presentation, the coherence and integrity of the scholarly argument, originality, and human-centredness.
Publication
The corresponding author of accepted papers must upload a camera-ready version of the paper to the conference submission system. All camera-ready submissions must adhere to the ACM template. Accepted papers may be published in the ACM Digital Library as part of the conference proceedings. At least one author of an accepted paper must register, attend, and present the paper at the conference.
